Parents Penalised for working Part-Time

This week the Modern Families Index 2019 was published, which confirmed what many of us have experienced; that the UK’s working parents are penalised for working part-time and suffer from poorly-designed jobs and business cultures that force them to work extra hours.

Part-time workers (most of whom are women) have a 21% chance of being promoted within the next 3 years, compared to 45% for their full-time counterparts. Not surprisingly, this is having a major impact on womens’ career progression and the gender pay-gap.

Working Families and Bright Horizons, who published the report, are calling for employers and government to create more ‘human-sized’ jobs and end the part-time stigma and long-hours culture.
